WORLD RELIGIONS MEET

July 31, 2004

The month of July has been very demanding. We began the
month from Concord to Walnut Creek in California. Despite
the short distance, the move was rather involved and
consumed an immense amount of energy and coordination. In
the weeks that preceded our move, we put in a lot of energy
developing a revised, user-friendly, website that made
provision for purchases to be made with credit cards. Our
good friend and colleague, the author Wayne Teasdale, was
admitted at the University of Chicago hospital to deal with
a special condition of cancer. Asha spent about two weeks
with him and it was an immense help.

My first program, right after the move, was a five-day
intensive at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY. I was
very pleased with kind of people this event drew – sound
healers, psychotherapists, yogis and yoga teachers,
musicians and massage therapists. I have long wanted to
offer an intensive in The Yoga of Sound that would address
such a group of healers. There was a wonderful response to
the event and enough enthusiasm to build a dedicated
learning community on the East coast which I intend to do.

Immediately after the intensive, I boarded a red-eye flight
to Barcelona on the invitation of the Forum of Cultures to
present three programs at the Parliament of World
Religions. I missed my connection flight in Paris and
arrived just in time to be whisked away to the historic
cathedral La Sagrada Familia. It was amazing to do a sound
check against the glorious backdrop of the cathedral’s
marvelous architecture. Later in the evening, thousands of
people gathered to experience the sacred music of cultures
from around the world. It was extraordinary to share the
stage with Tantric Tibetan choirs, whirling dervishes from
Turkey and Barcelona’s fabulous gospel group.

The Parliament featured presenters from the traditions of
the world. I presented a two hour workshop on the modern
applications of ancient Hindu practices through The Yoga of
Sound. I also presented Sounds of the Heart, a concert
featuring sacred chants from the spiritual traditions of
the world. It was wonderful to reconnect with friends and
colleagues from around the world.

After the Parliament, I flew to Chicago to be with Wayne
and then returned to California to do my first bookstore
appearance to promote my book The Yoga of Sound: Healing
and Enlightenment through the Sacred Practice of Mantra.
There was an excellent turnout at the Gateways bookstore in
Santa Cruz, CA and I felt deeply moved by the appreciation
for the content and comprehensiveness of the work.

The next day I joined physicist Peter Russell and astronaut
Edgar Mitchell to present a conference on The Future of
Enlightenment. About 65 people gathered at the Sheraton in
Sunnyvale, CA to discuss and explore the meaning and
purpose of enlightenment.

Be well and enjoy the summer.

In One Spirit,

Russill Paul.
